About The Position

The Memory Care Activities Director at Brookdale Oceanside is responsible for leading and inspiring residents through meaningful activities and engaging programs. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of life for residents with dementia by creating a warm and inclusive environment. The director will oversee the engagement team, ensuring that policies and procedures are implemented effectively, while also managing staff and volunteer programs to support resident engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in gerontology, therapeutic recreation, health education, or related field.
  • Three or more years of direct programming experience with older adults.
  • Experience with residents with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in a residential setting preferred.
  • Experience in program and event planning for older adults with Alzheimer's and other dementias required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a current 3-year driving abstract with no more than one moving violation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in supervising associates and training volunteers.
  • State required CDL certification if necessary for bus driving.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the quality of life for Resident and Family Engagement as outlined in Brookdale mission and cornerstones.
  • Hire, train, and supervise at least 2 full-time associates in accordance with Company policies.
  • Provide coaching and leadership of Coordinators, Managers, and Assistants within the community.
  • Participate in annual Family and Resident Engagement survey initiatives and address resident complaints and grievances.
  • Negotiate and manage community contracts in significant matters such as staffing, vendors, and entertainers.
  • Participate in the review of individual residents' Personal service plans and document progress as required.
  • Respond appropriately to resident emergencies and assist with disaster management efforts.
  • Manage a volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and supervising volunteers.
  • Coordinate the transportation of weekly resident outings into the greater community.
  • Maintain and adhere to department monthly budget and expense control.
