About The Position

This role is for a Member Team Leader at a new Sam's Club opening in Lathrop, California. The position requires a member-obsessed, hands-on leader who can help build the new location from the ground up. The Member Team Lead will lead teams in member-facing areas such as Membership, Front End, Self-Checkout, Club Pickup, and general member support. Key responsibilities include service execution, membership growth, operational accuracy, and associate development, working closely with club leadership to ensure every member interaction reflects the best of Sam’s Club. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced environment with the unique opportunity to help launch and shape a new location from day one. The role involves leading and inspiring associates, ensuring a friendly and efficient member experience, supporting recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management, and advocating for members, associates, and the company. It also entails being a member experience expert, ensuring associates resolve issues, supporting transactions and self-service, promoting membership value, and participating in sales and marketing events. Operationally, the role oversees assigned areas, manages claims, returns, zoning, and merchandise, maintains cart availability, monitors shrink and inventory, and ensures Club Pickup orders are completed. Financial and process ownership includes supporting front-end and accounting processes, investigating discrepancies, following procedures, and using data for improvement. Safety and compliance are also key, maintaining a clean and safe environment, conducting safety sweeps, and enforcing company policies. Finally, the role involves talent development, training associates, identifying potential, recognizing contributions, and fostering an inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • 6 months retail experience including operating front-end equipment (for example, cash register)
  • 6 months customer service experience
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire member-facing associates to deliver a friendly, efficient, and welcoming experience.
  • Assign work, set priorities, and communicate expectations clearly.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and development to drive strong service and performance.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Advocate for the member, the associate, and the company - every day.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to deliver a seamless total club experience.
  • Ensure associates consistently acknowledge members, identify needs, and resolve issues with care and urgency.
  • Support members with transactions, self-service technology, Club Pickup, and merchandise location.
  • Communicate the value of Sam’s Club by promoting membership types, upgrades, credit programs, and benefits.
  • Participate in sales and marketing events and support membership growth goals.
  • Oversee assigned areas by managing claims, returns, zoning, signing, and merchandise organization.
  • Maintain availability of carts and flatbeds and support parking lot cleanliness.
  • Monitor shrink, damages, and inventory accuracy in high-traffic areas.
  • Ensure Club Pickup orders are picked, staged, and completed according to policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and required records.
  • Support front-end and accounting processes, including cash handling, registers, deposits, and cash fund transfers.
  • Investigate overages, shortages, and discrepancies while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Follow accounting office procedures and support audits and compliance reviews.
  • Use data and reporting to track results and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for members and associates.
  • Conduct safety sweeps and address or report hazards promptly.
  • Model and enforce compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Support and reinforce the Open Door Policy.
  • Train and develop associates through hands-on leadership and timely completion of required training.
  • Identify potential in others and help build the skills needed for growth and advancement.
  • Recognize contributions and celebrate team wins.
