The Member Services Officer (MSO) plays a crucial role in embodying the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People". This position requires a comprehensive understanding of all functions performed by an Associate Member Services Officer, with additional responsibilities and expectations. MSOs are responsible for account maintenance, opening various account types, and assisting members with consumer lending. They are expected to independently evaluate and approve or deny loans within their assigned limits, ensuring that they maintain a thorough knowledge of credit union products and services to effectively educate members and make tailored recommendations based on their needs. In addition to lending responsibilities, MSOs must demonstrate proficiency in account maintenance, including the processing of tax-advantaged accounts, foreign and domestic wire transfers, and the redemption of savings bonds. They are also tasked with basic cash operations, such as balancing the vault and automated teller machines, and maintaining accurate records for various reports. Community engagement is another key aspect of the role, as MSOs are expected to organize and promote credit union events to enhance the organization's presence in the community. Performance expectations include compliance with all credit union policies and regulatory requirements, ensuring confidentiality of member information, and providing exceptional service across all communication channels. MSOs must also be adept at troubleshooting member account issues and providing quality referrals for financial advisory and real estate services. Regular attendance, punctuality, and participation in ongoing training are mandatory to ensure continuous professional development and effectiveness in the role.
