About The Position

Don't miss this unique, paid summer opportunity! Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Member Recruitment Intern through the NJ Career Accelerator Internship Grant Program (CAIGP). Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Joining the Council’s Member Recruitment team, you will attend community events and speak about Girl Scouting opportunities to establish relationships that result in prospective membership leads. You will gain hands-on experience in Member Recruitment efforts, reporting to the Member Recruitment Manager, while gaining exposure to nonprofit operations and learning how we adapt our business practices to expand our membership footprint. Who We Are... GSHNJ is one of four Girl Scout Councils supporting the New Jersey area. We service all of Hudson, Essex, Union, Somerset, Hunterdon, and portions of Middlesex and Warren counties. We operate offices in Newark, Westfield and North Branch, NJ; and maintain camp properties in Maplewood, Hillsborough, and Middleville, NJ. The Mission... Requirements

  • Ability to work part-time (15-20 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks between June 2026 and August 2026.
  • Current NJ undergraduate or graduate student, a recent NJ college graduate (May 2025 – May 2026 graduates), or a permanent NJ resident currently pursuing an undergraduate degree out-of-state.
  • Ability to confidently speak about Girl Scouting opportunities and engage diverse community groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and nurture connections that result in prospective membership leads.
  • Experience or comfort attending community events and identifying new membership opportunities.
  • Strong verbal and written skills for representing the council and collaborating with the recruitment team.
  • A proactive approach to sourcing leads and adapting messaging to various community settings.
  • A collaborative spirit, but also able to work independently.
  • Become a registered member of Girl Scouts and maintain membership for duration of internship.
  • Position is mostly in-person.
  • Attend an orientation prior to the start of the internship through the Career Accelerator Internship Grant Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in Education, Marketing/Communications, Sociology (Human Development/Family), or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help promote Girl Scouting and increase awareness throughout the local community via recruitment sessions to form new troops, recruit adult volunteers, and register new girl members.
  • Help deliver engaging hands-on activities for girls and caregivers at events.
  • Help perform administrative tasks to aid in the preparation and execution of recruitment events.
  • Collaborate with designated staff to fulfill event goals and assist in recruitment efforts.
  • Communicate the Girl Scout mission, including the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, its benefits, and its impact on girls and their communities.
  • Represent the Girl Scout brand through consistent, professional presence and communication methods.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
