Member of Technical Staff -- Founding Engineer (Data)
About The Position
Twenty Labs is an applied research lab working on augmenting knowledge workers, starting with finance. The penetration of AI in finance is still limited and we want to be the company that delivers AGI to finance through our product, Compound (@getcompoundai). Some product videos can be found on YouTube. You'll be joining a highly technical founding team, including leading researchers and engineers from Google DeepMind/Brain and Microsoft who pioneered research in language models, shipped GenAI products to billions in production, paired with domain expertise from top finance and consulting firms (Coatue, Bain, Y Combinator). We're seeking exceptional backend engineers who excel at going deep on data. You'll build the data pipelines and database systems that power Compound's AI agents, ingesting diverse financial data sources and ensuring our systems can query them with speed and precision. You'll work closely with the founders to rapidly integrate new data sources that give our AI agents the context they need to deliver real value.
Requirements
- Have deep expertise building and optimizing data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data at scale, e.g. Beam, Spark, Flink, etc.
- Love going deep on details to understand data thoroughly
- Are obsessive about schema correctness and query performance for latency-sensitive applications
- Are an expert in database technologies: PostgreSQL, SQL/NoSQL, MongoDB, BigQuery and/or alternatives
- Have experience with large datasets at hedge funds, trading firms, or top-tier tech companies
- Have a strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, distributed systems
- Are experienced in deploying services (docker, kubernetes) to at least one of GCP, AWS, Azure
- Strong programmer with expertise in at least one statically-typed language
- Use AI to augment yourself and accelerate your work, but you also augment AI (thoroughly review AI-code, catch its bugs, and call-out poor design)
- Are invigorated by high-performing peers and doing high-quality work
