About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a friendly and knowledgeable individual to serve as the initial contact for the public. This position involves communicating with members, participants, and the general public about services, programs, and events in a courteous manner. The role emphasizes excellent customer service and engagement in activities aimed at increasing membership in our centers. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Good communication skills, including phone skills.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and proficient in multi-tasking.
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills in handling fees.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
  • Experience and ability to work productively with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Greet members, participants, staff, and the general public in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Verify all members and participants using the facility.
  • Answer phone lines according to YMCA phone procedures and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Respond to needs and questions with accurate information.
  • Handle complaints in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, complaints, needed repairs, incidents, or accidents immediately.
  • Operate the program and membership sales system as directed.
  • Collect and stay informed of appropriate fees, being responsible for cash, receipts, and balancing the financial journal.
  • Give tours and educate members and prospective members on services, programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Keep the welcome center and lobby clean and well organized.
