About The Position

We are a continuous casting aluminum rolling mill who established operations in 1984 and located in Fort Lupton Colorado, 35 miles north of downtown Denver. We care about our environment, our people, and our community. We’re honored to be selected by the Department of Energy to receive up to $22.3 million in investment supporting our Nexcast Mini Mill and other breakthrough projects which will steer the aluminum industry toward a greener, decarbonized future. POSITION SUMMARY The Melt Superintendent provides safety, quality, and production leadership in alignment with department and company objectives. Additional responsibilities include managing day to day operations, continuous improvement, cost control, production, scheduling, and engaging in and leading department initiatives. The Superintendent’s areas of responsibility also include Raw Materials inventories, melt loss reduction, blending optimization, molten metal quality, and setting priorities for maintenance. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Golden Aluminum; therefore, the superintendent must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Ability to work independently with stakeholders on both requirements gathering and business improvement strategies;
Ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Ability to work the hours/days necessary to support a 24/7/365 operation

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe work environment through cultural development, behavior based safety, and adherence to Work Instructions, RCA on safety incidents and near misses, and completion of safety observations.
Establishes personnel schedules and labor requirements to achieve production goals and objectives.
Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity, production shortfalls, and operating concerns for remediation and works in conjunction with the Reliability team to address issues.
Responsible for selection and mentoring of Leads, Process Experts and Production Technicians.
Ensures adherence to/compliance with company policies, rules and regulations relating to safety/health, performance standards, operating procedures, processes, and training requirements.
Manages critical raw material inventory level and actively manages charge mix for cost optimization.
Responsible for implementing NCR corrective actions including re-training of hourly personnel.
Collaborates with Department Manager to plan departmental work flow in order to achieve long term goals established by senior management.
Identifies and evaluates production practice changes.
Schedules and implements necessary employee training.
Directly supervises approximately 25 employees: monitors work quality, including conducting performance appraisals and providing counseling for improved performance.
