About The Position

Nucor Steel Memphis is seeking a qualified Melt Shop Mechanic to support the execution of the plant maintenance strategy. This position is responsible for safely troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading mechanical equipment in a heavy industrial steelmaking environment. Essential Job Functions Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and upgrade mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications Maintain and repair equipment including engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machinery, and related plant equipment Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments to perform maintenance tasks Observe equipment in operation and identify mechanical issues through sound, vibration, and performance indicators Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability Accurately document work performed using EBS or a similar Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maintain good housekeeping standards in all work areas Safety is the most important part of every job at Nucor. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in mechanical or industrial maintenance with hands-on troubleshooting or completion of a technical school program with related internship
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, and holidays as required

Nice To Haves

  • Four-year technical degree or equivalent industrial experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Steel mill or heavy industrial experience
  • Experience with EBS or similar CMMS systems
  • Experience with industrial hydraulic systems
  • Air compressor operation and maintenance experience
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory
  • Gearbox setup and precision alignment experience
