Melt Operator
About The Position
Associate Remelt Operators ensure safe and environmentally sound operation, and achievement of targets related to quality and productivity. Incumbents employ Novelis' values in a manner that contributes to Teamwork, Caring, Excellence, Responsibility and Innovation. This position reports directly to the Melt Business Unit Leader and ultimately to the Operations Leader. Associate Remelt Operators work a 12-hour rotating schedule, with a paid 15-minute overlap of shifts to attend a pre-shift meeting. It is expected that Operations Technicians will work an amount of overtime that supports the business and their work team. Attendance at meetings is expected, and opportunities exist for participation on a variety of committees, focus groups and project teams.
Requirements
- Candidates for this position must have a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in industry or with heavy equipment operation.
- Candidates for this position must have demonstrated that they: Have a high level of concern for safety Work well with others
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in elements of Greensboro's safety system
- Ensure compliance to environmental requirements
- Perform material handling activities, mostly with a fork truck and bobcat
- Ensure mechanical properties by sampling, alloying and skimming
- Transfer molten metal to the Holders per production targets
- Manage weigh belt speeds to optimize throughput
- Manage dross to reduce waste and to meet shipping requirements
- Perform equipment inspections to ensure proper condition
- Keep all work areas clean and bright
