About The Position

Explore the multifaceted realm of Visit Detroit's meetings and conventions spring and summer internship program, spanning from May to August. Engage in diverse tasks including assisting with familiarization tours, showcasing Detroit's attractions, and providing essential support to the meetings and conventions team through data entry and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly express thoughts, ideas, and concepts, verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, and analyzing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to think and manage creatively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work attitude, appearance, and behavior even in the most demanding situation.
  • Ability to work effectively in both remote and in-person work environment; proficient using video conferencing software and other remote work tools.
  • Proficient in using personal computer software and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Available weekends and outside of normal work hours for assignments and travel, as needed.
  • Office work involves extended periods of sitting or working at a desk, utilizing repetitive typing motions on a computer or laptop, and reading text on a video display monitor.
  • Ability to perform extensive standing and/or walking for work-related assignments and events.
  • Ability to lift push, and or carry up to 40lbs. occasionally

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of a combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Hospitality or event planning experience/education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely administrative support to the Meetings and Convention Sales team, including Developing and maintaining spreadsheets, compiling client materials, creating client name badges, and delivering VIP gifts.
  • Handle phone and email communications professionally, responding promptly to client and internal inquiries.
  • Assist with travel, requisitions, and inventory requests, including creating, revising, and confirming logistics for staff attending shows or client visits.
  • Support promotional initiatives, including writing, editing, and preparing materials to enhance awareness and sales campaigns.
  • Partner with Visit Detroit to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into team operations, helping foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for employees and stakeholders.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry, including best practices in client relationship management and superior customer service.
  • Assist with sales lead generation and prospect research, helping identify potential client opportunities and supporting follow-up communications.
  • Maintain and update CRM systems and sales databases, ensuring accurate tracking of leads, client interactions, and reporting metrics.
  • Support team projects and special initiatives, helping improve processes and contribute to overall sales goals.
