About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, Licensed Practical Nurses are tasked with assisting in the direct daily care of patients by assessing patient needs and playing a role in providing them with the appropriate treatment plan.

Requirements

  • Current LPN License in the State of Georgia.
  • Current BLS certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Current ACLS certification. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Current PALS certification. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is preferred but not required.
  • Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the RN to create plan of care
  • Administers medications in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assesses patients at the beginning of each shift and as patient conditions change. Documents assessments.
  • Applying and discontinuing telemetry monitor per physician order
  • Starts IV’s, inserts foley catheters, nasogastric tubes, rectal tubes and any other treatment within his/her scope of practice as ordered by the physician.
  • Gives medications, including IV piggyback-diluted medications and IV push medications.
  • Performs routine injections while under the direct supervision of the provider or Nurse Manager.
  • Collects or assists in collecting specimens.
  • Takes patient vital signs.
  • Assists with patient care including wound care, Activities of Daily Life care, etc.
  • Follows unit-based and age appropriate guidelines in performing patient assessments.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings and assists with treatment plan updates.
  • Monitors patients for any changes in condition and intervenes early by notifying the provider.
  • Reports on patient conditions at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Assists with patient rounding, reviewing diagnostics, and carrying out orders.
  • Assists with communicating patient updates to families and staff.
  • Provides patients and families with appropriate and complete discharge information. Assesses understanding.
  • Assists in the referral, admission, and discharge process.
  • Performs patient rounds every 2 hours.
  • Informs RNs of changes in patient conditions.
  • Relays clinical information to physicians.
  • Pulls charts for diagnostic results, consults, and prescription refills on a daily basis.
  • Co-signs orders processed within 2 hours. Processes stat orders within 15 minutes and routine orders within 2 hours.
  • Completes unit safety checks and identifies, eliminates, and reports any identified safety issues every shift.
  • Assists in the proper completion of insurance forms and patient assistance forms.
  • Charts medications and any other pertinent patient information.
  • Charts and files patient information correctly.
  • Documents nursing care.
  • Enters patient charges every shift.
  • Participates in Utilization Review meetings with other team members regarding patient care.
  • Orders patient supplies and materials.
  • Takes call rotations.
  • Acts as a preceptor for nursing students and orients new hires of the same discipline.
  • Keeps the work station clean and assists with housekeeping duties (employee fridge, putting away supplies, etc).
  • Assists in other areas of the hospital.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested.
