Strategy Engineering is seeking a Medium Voltage Electrical Power Engineer (with substation experience) who is responsible for supporting and actively participating in the design of substations as assigned from the concept phase through final construction drawings and project completion. In this position, you will interface with project managers and other discipline leads to ensure accuracy and consistency across engineering packages, from the design to the construction phase.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of experience in the engineering and design of utility-scale substations for power generation, power storage, transmission facilities, and distribution systems projects.
Sound understanding of IEEE substation design standards related to physical aspects.
Experience with power system studies (lightning, auxiliary transformer sizing, grounding).
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs, and other analysis program.

Nice To Haves

P.E. certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall Design and Engineering of substations as assigned from the concept phase through final construction drawings and project completion.
Performs Electrical Engineering work requiring a sound working knowledge of utility substation designs and standards.
Provides Electrical Design for projects such as Relay Upgrades, Breaker Additions/Upgrades, Transformer Replacements, RTU Installations, and New Substations.
Provides Physical Design for projects such as Bus Additions, new Equipment Installations, and New Substations.
Creates project scope definition, project estimates, and schedules.
Works with Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within the project budget.
Prepares Specifications and Material Lists.
Oversees Preparation of Review Sets and Final Construction Sets.
Oversees Project Close Out and As-Built revisions.
Confers with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers' representatives, and others as required when carrying out the above work.
Keeps informed of the latest developments in the electric utility field relating to substation design and construction.
Makes suggestions for improvements as necessary.
Serves as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.
Performs site visits for documentation, as required by clients.
Visits construction sites to inspect work in progress or completed, as required by clients.
Mentors and trains Design Engineers, Designers, and Electrical CAD Team.
Additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.
Function as a technical lead substation design engineer.
Substation design encompasses distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes.
Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
