About The Position

The Program Supervisor II manages the Medicolegal Death Investigation (MLDI) section within the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). This position provides leadership and oversight for all MLDI operations, including program direction, personnel management, and policy development. The role ensures continuous 24/7 coverage for death investigations across the OCME’s jurisdiction, coordinating activities among Medical Examiner Specialists and administrative staff. Responsibilities include supervising investigations, maintaining operational standards, and fostering collaboration with law enforcement, public health, and other external partners. The position is integral to the OCME management team and supports statewide medicolegal services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment OR an equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Proven experience conducting death scene investigations, including thorough documentation, evidence collection, and collaboration with law enforcement, while maintaining strict adherence to chain-of-custody and reporting protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervisory experience including recruitment, hiring, on-boarding and training, annual reviews, performance improvement planning, disciplinary actions, and separations.
  • Demonstrate skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, to prepare investigative reports, track case metrics, and support inter-agency communication and training documentation.
  • Experience providing forensic training and mentorship to interns, students, or professionals in topics such as medicolegal jurisdiction, identification techniques, and death scene documentation, with a focus on program coordination and knowledge transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage up to 18 Medical Examiner Specialists and administrative staff to ensure effective MLDI operations.
  • Coordinate and maintain 24/7 scheduling for death investigation coverage, including holidays and weekends.
  • Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures governing medicolegal death investigations.
  • Oversee daily operations of the MLDI unit, including workflow management and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and manage section budget, inventory, and procurement of supplies and equipment.
  • Direct recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance management for MLDI personnel.
  • Plan and deliver training programs for staff and external stakeholders on medicolegal investigation practices.
  • Conduct and lead death scene investigations, including documentation, evidence collection, and coordination with law enforcement.
  • Ensure accurate case intake, jurisdictional determination, and disposition of reported deaths.
  • Pursue grant funding opportunities and maintain partnerships to support program sustainability.
