About The Position

This position will provide spirometry testing to adult patients for screening for lung disease. They will provide this testing in keeping with a schedule that is developed and approved by the physician staff of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Testing will be provided under the direction of the physician faculty of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The position will provide primary analysis of a patient’s ability to complete spirometry and tolerance of the testing process. The position will maintain all clinical testing equipment in keeping with all professional standards. The position will participate in all education and training for the clinical scope of service and FPI’s mandatory annual competencies and any other training deemed necessary to maintain quality and standards by the Division Head and/or Division Administrator.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform spirometry (a kind of pulmonary function testing) to patients undergoing contractual evaluations by staff of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Assures appropriate operation of spirometry testing equipment and notifies physician staff of operational and maintenance needs. Provides and maintains patient testing in keeping with the division faculty’s standards and needs.  Responds promptly and effectively to physicians and other healthcare providers.   DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Conduct spirometry testing according to ATS/ERS standards using spirometer Coach and prepare patients to obtain high-quality, reproducible results Equipment setup, calibration, and infection control Documentation, data management, and follow-up communication Professional standards and teamwork Note:  The intent of this list of primary duties is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this job.  Incumbents perform other related duties as assigned.  Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved Respiratory Therapy program
  • Must possess a Maryland Respiratory Therapy Practitioner License
  • Pulmonary Functions Testing training or experience
  • Experienced in performing spirometry and completion of at least 20 tests over the last 24 months
  • Pulmonary Functions Testing training or experience.
