About The Position

The Medicine Tech/Resident Care Associate position performs various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents, administers medications as prescribed by the physician, documents the administration, the medication effectiveness, and any noted adverse reactions or side effects under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Here are some of the duties you will perform: Resident Care Associate Duties: Assist with personal care, including but not limited to; bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy (where applicable). Make beds as needed in A.M., turn down as needed in P.M., strip beds once each week or PRN (where applicable). Do all personal laundry on resident’s first scheduled shower day (where applicable). Do all linens per shift (where applicable). Assist residents with meal-time, cut food, encourage to eat, feed when needed (where applicable). Utilize on an on-going basis each day all aspects of special programs offered in Heartfelt Connections Program (where applicable). Always maintain calm atmosphere. Keep kitchen, work-station, laundry room, and bathroom and common areas neat and clean (where applicable) Follow through with all assignments on a timely basis in accordance to chain of command. Report to Director of Health Services and/or LPN-LVN-Care Partner all unusual behavior of resident (changing of status) or refusal of medications. Provide activities as planned and/or directed (where applicable). Document resident status as per policy. Respond to all call lights and emergencies in a timely manner. Provide emergency care within scope of practice. Supports creating a culture where the business decisions made in this position, along with individual employee engagement, drive top-line revenue and occupancy. Medicine Tech Duties: Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, and suppository drugs. The medication aide who prepares the medicine administers same. Checks and prepares each dose immediately preceding administration. Follows administration protocol: Records administration of the medication on resident’s medication administration record. Discards medication refused or otherwise not given and records on medication administration record. Reports medication errors or reactions to medications immediately to the charge nurse, who, in turn, reports to the resident’s attending physician and completes the necessary documentation. Performs accurate pulse and blood pressure and recognizes their significance in drug therapy. Administers PRN medication only under the following directives. Signs and has access to the controlled schedule drug cabinet. Administers medication only upon a written physician’s order.

Requirements

  • Prior geriatric experience is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Ability to document care given.
  • Can generate a warm, friendly, and caring manner on first impression.
  • Can pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; may be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV; must be able to transport residents via wheelchair, geri-chair or shower chair, pushing up to 150 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to transfer, lift, turn and position a resident weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the workday.
  • May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.
  • Must be able to reach up to a level of six feet; must be able to push a dietary cart up to 40 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
