About The Position

This is a blended position that assists pharmacists with medication and pharmaceutical supplies inventory and inspections, including maintaining records of such. Receives and processes medications orders, restocks and maintains inventory in the PickPoint machines and the over-the-counter floor stock. Maintains pharmacy spaces in orderly manner and manages patient pick up of their medications. They also perform administrative services for the daily clinic operations including data entry, filing, scheduling and arranging travel. Communicates, assists, and refers as necessary to ensure quality health care to patients is being provided. Assists with administrative requests from MHC, City Offices and/or IRAs, and maintains office supplies. As initial contact, uses positive attitude to represent the Village Clinic. Complies with state and regulatory agency requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality in regards to patient information received. Under no circumstances will a Medication Technician dispense any medication without patient specific labels. This position reports directly to the Clinic Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College level course work in chemistry to medical related disciplines preferred.
  • Must begin the process of obtaining a pharmacy technician license from the State of Alaska within 3 months of hire date.
  • Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric measurement systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Familiar and proficient with the use of computers.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining filing systems.
  • Ability to deal with people in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Medical terminology or other health-related background desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting and familiar with medical terminology.
  • Willingness to attend job related training and education programs.
  • Familiar with requirements and documentation in patient files.
  • Familiar with Electronic Health Records.
  • 6 months previous experience as a Medication Technician I.
  • Familiar with the current drug wholesale order system or equivalent.
  • One year of clerical work experience that includes use of Electronic Health Records.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all locations where drugs are stored and maintain records of inspections.
  • Communicate with village health aides for clarification or problems with orders.
  • Perform drug packaging and labeling.
  • Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability.
  • Perform regular inventories and prepare drug and supply orders.
  • Maintain pharmacy and drug storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Manage over-the-counter medication and document in the daily medical log.
  • Manage Chronic Medication List and keep it up to date.
  • Assist Pharmacists and/or providers with pill counts.
  • Maintain narcotic pick up log and dispense medicine when due.
  • Manage PickPoint machine inventory.
  • Send medication refill requests to appropriate staff.
  • Practice excellent customer service at the front desk.
  • File all correspondence, reports, forms, and patient charts.
  • Enter data from the patient registration form.
  • Enter appointments into CHA/Ps schedules.
  • Pull all charts as requested by CHA/Ps or appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain clinic records and establish/updates filing systems.
  • Notify and arrange patient travel for appointments.
  • Assist clients with correspondence and enrollment applications.
  • Arrange Medicaid travel for patients seeking health care services.
  • Verify eligibility through appropriate channels.
  • Complete travel authorizations.
  • Work beyond normal business hours for emergent patients.
  • Announce and post health clinic job vacancies.
  • Maintain on-call calendar and track staffing and services.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Clinic Supervisor.
