The position involves following the policies and procedures of the facility regarding the administration of medications to residents. Responsibilities include noting and reporting errors in medication administration, assisting in developing procedures to identify and prevent medication errors, and performing administrative tasks such as completing necessary forms and reports. The role requires maintaining a productive working relationship with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists, and reporting any resident complaints to the Director of Nursing Services. Participation in facility surveys, Quality Assurance programs, and other committees related to medication processes is also expected. The position entails accurately preparing, administering, and documenting medications, verifying medications brought in by residents, and following procedures for medication destruction and labeling. The role requires observing and verifying medication ingestion, documenting any instances of non-administration, and notifying appropriate nursing staff of errors or reactions. The position also involves ensuring confidentiality of resident information and reporting any unauthorized access attempts.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school education or equivalent.
  • Must be a licensed Medication Aide with completion of a state-approved training program.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and technical documents.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Follow facility policies and procedures for administering medications to residents.
  • Note and report errors in medication administration.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procedures to identify and prevent medication errors.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as completing forms, charts, and reports.
  • Maintain a friendly working relationship with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists.
  • Report resident complaints to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections.

  • Accurately prepare, administer, and document medications.
  • Verify medications brought in by newly admitted residents.
  • Follow procedures for medication destruction and labeling.
  • Document and remove discontinued medications.
  • Notify the delivery source and Director of Nursing Services of drug receipt errors.
  • Ensure proper documentation of drug receipt errors.
  • Observe and verify medication ingestion or application.
  • Document instances of non-administration of prescribed medications.
  • Notify nursing staff of errors or reactions to medications.
  • Verify resident identity before administering medications.
  • Measure, record, and report residents' vital signs.
  • Follow procedures for residents self-administering medications.
  • Attend continuing education programs to maintain certification.
  • Report suspected violations of resident health information confidentiality.
  • Perform tasks as instructed by supervisors and cooperate with other personnel.
