About The Position

The Medication Historian assists with the accurate and complete collection of medication history data in a variety of hospital settings. This role prioritizes the process of obtaining an accurate and complete medication list upon hospital admission to ensure patient safety.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be a registered pharmacy technician or be eligible for technician/trainee registration in the State of Iowa. This must be completed within 30 days of employment.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Two or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician (retail preferred) or allied health professional, with knowledge of medications including brand/generic names, available dosages, frequencies and indications.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Required/preferred certification in Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with people of diverse backgrounds and at all levels within the medical center and community.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.
  • Be proficient in mathematical skills; and successfully complete competency exam with a minimum passing score of 70%
