About The Position
The Medication Aide position at the Youth Center involves working under the direction of the Director of Nursing or their designee. The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to administer select medications and treatments while providing basic nursing and restorative care to detainees. This role is crucial in ensuring that the health and well-being of the detainees are maintained through proper medication management and supportive care. The Medication Aide must adhere to established nursing and physician orders, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations. This includes reviewing detainee allergies before administering any medications or treatments and verifying the correct medication prior to delivery. In addition to medication administration, the Medication Aide is responsible for documenting the administration or refusal of medications in the electronic health record (EHR) and notifying the registered nurse (RN) of any refusals. The role also requires the aide to document vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, and other nursing interactions, as well as assist with restorative nursing based on individual care plans. The aide must maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, and other stakeholders, while also ensuring a safe and respectful work environment. The position requires participation in daily reports, rounds, and assigned meetings, as well as maintaining cleanliness in the workspace and medication/treatment cart. The Medication Aide is expected to provide superior customer service to detainees and visitors, report any suspected abuse or neglect, and adhere to safety and emergency procedures. Continuous professional development is also emphasized, with the aide expected to maintain job knowledge and skills through various educational opportunities.
