Medication Aide (OR) POSITION SUMMARY The Medication Aide plays a key role in fostering a joyful and vibrant community. They care for residents by administering and assisting with both routine and non-routine, non-injectable medications. These medications are given orally, rectally, or topically, following physician orders and nursing practices. This is all done under the guidance and direction of the Director of Nursing Services, in line with our policies, procedures, and guidelines. ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES Completes simple nursing treatments and monitors residents as directed by the Director of Nursing where State Nursing Regulations authorize such delegation. Performs various tasks assigned by the Director of Nursing Services including but not limited to vital signs, residents' weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, as well as lifting, moving, and transporting residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.Follows standard precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security. Report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs. Maintains accurate record of medications and treatments administered or omitted on each resident’s clinical record, including the reasons for omissions or PRN (as needed) medication administration. Records narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheet and reports all medication errors immediately. Reports and records changes in resident conditions, incidents, and accidents in a timely manner to the Director of Nursing Services, physician and family members as indicated by the Director of Nursing Services.Accurately documents care services provided in observation on communication logs and incident reports. Communicate effectively with physician, pharmacies, residents, and families to ensure medications are received in a timely manner.Provides direct resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and choice; regularly observes resident’s physical and mental condition and directly reports to the Director of Nursing Services. Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously and in a manner that respects dignity, confidentiality standards and promotes individual rights. Follows and supports community fire safety and infection control practices. Reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Director of Nursing Services promptly. Maintains medication, equipment, medication room, and med cart in a clean and orderly medication room. Remove outdated or discontinued medication for return to the pharmacy. Attends and participates in required meetings and trainings. Stays current on all system assigned tasks and duties. Assist caregivers in the performance of their job duties.Performs other tasks/duties as assigned
