About The Position

The Medication Access Team Manager is responsible for overseeing all efforts related to prior authorization for medications billed through patients’ pharmacy or medical benefits, patient assistance workflows, and protocol maintenance. This role serves as a liaison between the Medication Access team, clinic leadership, clinical staff, providers, insurance providers, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient care for all patients impacted by the Medication Access team. Key responsibilities include oversight of obtaining medication insurance coverage or assistance and benefit information, coordinating medication authorizations, monitoring patients’ insurance coverage or assistance and benefit information, facilitating medication refill requests, and communicating insurance-related issues to the treatment team. The manager also leads the daily operations of the Medication Access team to ensure timely services and proper follow-up by team members, provides updates regarding medication access services to physicians and clinical staff, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of pharmacy experience working with healthcare providers on strategic and operational initiatives.
  • State Board of Pharmacy Technician registration obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and client relationship skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects with urgency and good judgement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to develop and deliver professional presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues, demonstrating strong analytical and creative skills.
  • Ability to make sound, timely decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgement
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs).
  • Ability to build trust and foster collaboration across teams and organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or personnel management experience.
  • Previous consulting or client-facing experience.
  • Active CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees medication access and affordability services developed within Visante across multiple client partnerships, including prior authorization services, enrollment in free drug programs, and other patient support initiatives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and develops team members to ensure high performance and adequate staffing support for all medication access and affordability services offered by Visante.
  • Provides ongoing supervision, coaching, and performance management for staff to ensure service quality, professional growth, and alignment with Visante’s goals.
  • Establishes, monitors, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring results exceed established benchmarks and project objectives.
  • Identifies and resolves roadblocks or barriers that may impact project success, proactively driving progress toward client and internal organizational goals.
  • Serves as a liaison between internal medication access leadership and external stakeholders, maintaining routine and frequent communication/follow-up to foster strong client partnerships.
  • Develops standardized processes for client onboarding, prior authorization and other referral workflows, documentation, tracking, and communication to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Evaluates pharmacy operations and support services and develops recommendations for improved workflows and productivity.
  • Collaborates with client pharmacy and clinic teams to design, implement, and optimize medication access and affordability services.
  • Provides training and expertise to client employees to ensure effective medication access and affordability services.
  • Provides subject matter expertise within Visante for medication access and affordability services, specialty pharmacy services, and retail pharmacy operations.
  • Ensures exceptional customer service in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to client development efforts and project deliverables, including frameworks, approaches, and best practices that maximize value, growth, and performance.
  • Builds trust-based, competency-driven relationships with internal teams and client stakeholders to sustain long-term success and collaboration.
