About The Position

Responsible for the movement and disposal of medical waste, infectious waste, and general waste, from various collection points. Empties solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps, confidential paper, and from collection bins according to established schedule. Transports covered wheeled of solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps, confidential paper, and from collection sites to designated areas. Packages and labels regulated medical waste according to policy. Visually inspects each regulated medical waste bag as it is removed from collection bin to ensure it is properly packaged according to established criteria. Notifies Supervisor of any bag not meeting packaging criteria and assists in repackaging to proper status. Reports improperly packaged medical waste on occurrence report indicating root cause whenever possible, i.e., unsolidified suction canister, untied bag, single bag, etc. Operates compactor for solid waste and cardboard/recyclable paper. Loads and unloads solid waste, regulated medical waste, sharps and confidential paper into designated containers. Cleans and organizes waste storage areas. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
