About The Position

Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. The Medical Transporter II Driver is responsible for driving patients to and from designated locations. This position maintains the safety, security, and cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment, performing pre-trip checks as well as stocking the vehicle with necessary supplies. The Medical Transporter II Driver proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; and models Eskenazi Health’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of CPR certification within 1 month of date of hire
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license that meet Eskenazi Health’s approved driving standards
  • EVOC certification within 6 months of hire as made available by IEMS

Nice To Haves

  • Competent in Microsoft Office and the Epic system
  • Basic English reading and writing skills; bilingual is desired but not required
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handling
  • Good reasoning ability
  • Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
  • Promptness, empathy and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers and staff
  • Ability to assess patient needs during transport
  • Must be able to follow written/verbal instructions
  • Flexible to changing work priorities/schedules

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to and from diagnostic procedures and tests
  • Transports patients to and from designated outside location using ADA transport vehicles
  • Maintains appropriate logs/records
  • Maintains clean and efficient equipment; cleans wheelchairs and stretchers after each use with disinfectant; reports defective/broken equipment to supervisor
  • Lifts patients onto/out of wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, etc., using the principles of body mechanics
  • Exercises independent judgment in critical, emergency situations
  • Assist driver on vehicle with patients by loading and or traveling as an assistant
