About The Position

This is a fully onsite Medical Technologist role based at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Global Central Laboratory in Highland Heights, KY. The company welcomes applicants from all locations within the US, though relocation assistance is not provided. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and pass a comprehensive background check, including drug screening. The available shift is a 2nd Shift rotating schedule (2PM-10:30PM ET), with shift differentials offered. The PPD® Laboratory Services team directly impacts patient health through the expertise of scientists and therapeutic experts, delivering groundbreaking innovations. Medical Technologists in the Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) group perform analysis, evaluate individual and related laboratory data, recognize patterns or trends suggesting significance of results, and determine clinical significance. They also assist in authoring and modifying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 2 years’) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the (PBMC) Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell group
  • Perform, review, and interpret complex, esoteric, and routine chemical, hematological, coagulation, renal, lipid, and hormonal analyses by manual, automated, and/or microscopic methods.
  • Integrate analytical results with specific and varied clinical trial protocols to evaluate the credibility, appropriateness, and accuracy of test results in order to facilitate the inclusion or exclusion of subjects from research programs.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair clinical laboratory equipment, including performing routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, and safety checks.
  • Recognize and resolve instrument problems, independently evaluating and taking appropriate action to ensure accurate patient data when major instrument issues occur.
  • Evaluate analytical reagents, calibrators, and QC standards to ensure the accuracy of analytical results.
  • Evaluate quality control procedures and results and implement corrective actions when indicated.
  • Perform ongoing statistical data analysis to detect trends or problems and undertake corrective action.
  • Conduct comparison studies for precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing assays or instruments.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new procedures and in the modification of existing methods.
  • Provide instruction for new employees and students in the theory and practice of laboratory medicine and the interpretation of results.
