Job Summary and Qualifications The Pathology and Clinical Lab Medical Technologist is a Bachelor's prepared Medical Technologist who obtains patient specimens, performs diagnostic tests, interprets and reports results. The technologist performs quality control testing and equipment maintenance, maintains inventory, and assists in training new employees and students. Technologists may specialize in hematology, blood bank, serology/urinalysis, chemistry or microbiology, or may be generalist proficient in all areas of the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Certification with ASCP or AMT. A candidate with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology has one year from date of hire to obtain Certification
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Medical Lab Scientist must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical procedures proficiently in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Verifies the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control values prior to reporting patient test results.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures related to each test performed.
  • Resolves technical problems, ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from laboratory's established performance specification.
  • Ensures proper specimen collection, identification, labeling and tagging of patients and samples.
  • Is knowledgeable of factors that influence test results.
  • Reports critical results to appropriate personnel
  • Performs CAP Surveys for all testing performed.
  • Assumes supervisory duties when needed
  • Assumes responsibility of being member of wellness team.
  • Performs phlebotomy accurately and efficiently 95% of time
  • Is familiar with front office policies and procedures and processes outpatient and industrial account specimens
