About The Position

Position Overview: Performs patient specimen analysis for diagnostic purposes. Enters all results into the computer system. Brings panic value test results to the attention of the provider, nurse, and/or supervisor. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing various equipment and work areas in the laboratory. Maintains laboratory inventory. Processes specimens in hematology, chemistry, and the blood bank.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in science needed.
  • Certification/Licensure as a Medical Technologist in Hematology, Chemistry, and/or Blood Bank.

Nice To Haves

  • Other languages are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for specimen processing, test performance and reporting of test results.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that improves patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Always follow standard precautions and follow OSHA requirements.
  • Operates and maintains equipment correctly and safely, including calibration of instruments.
  • Cleans laboratory glassware, sinks and work benches using proper solvents and/or disinfectants.
  • Uses hospital approved disinfectants for cleaning.
  • Responsible for inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratory, reports needed supplies to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting.
  • Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis.
  • Communicates verbally in a clear and concise manner.
  • Submits suggestions to improve the laboratory’s efficiency.
  • Interacts with laboratory personnel in a professional manner.
  • Performs clerical work; can input and retrieve lab results in the computer system.
  • Use and disclose protected health information only as authorized in their job description or as authorized by a supervisor.
  • Conduct oral discussions of personal health information with other staff or with patients and family members in a manner that limits the possibility of inadvertent disclosures.
  • Complete privacy training
  • Report suspected violations of the policies and procedures established in this manual by staff members as detailed in Handbook.
  • Report suspected violations of a business associate’s contractual obligations to safeguard protected health information.
  • Completes CEU (continuing education) requirements as per the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Follows all organizational policies on ethical business practices.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements (Infection Control, Fire/Safety, HIPAA, Abuse, Compliance, etc.).
