About The Position

OPTIM MEDICAL CENTER SCREVEN is seeking a full time Medical Technologist for the Sylvania, GA location. Job Summary: Responsible for the processing of laboratory specimens and reporting of results in all areas of the  clinical laboratory. Maintain laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures;  maintain quality control practices in the Laboratory. He/she shall supervise the work of  subordinate personnel and Medical laboratory trainees. Qualifications:            State licensure as Medical Technologist, previous experience preferred.  Physical Demands:    Medium work of lifting up to 50 pound.  Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.  Working Conditions:     Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), bio-hazardous body fluids and hazardous        chemicals. Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress. Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving   instrumentation, chemicals and body fluids.   Language Skills:  Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.   Duties and Responsibilities:    Ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology,     Microbiology, Serology/Immunology.   Responsible for performing moderate and high-complexity testing.  Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.   Perform quality control procedures and instrument checks according to policy.   Demonstrate knowledge of expected lab values for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult geriatric  patients.   Notify patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.  Maintain accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.   Meet current documentation standards and procedures.   Interact professionally with the Director of Clinical Laboratory, Pathologist and Clinical Laboratory personnel.   Consult with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and Performance Improvement activities.   Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/ health care errors.   Follow standard precautions at all times.   Manage and operate laboratory equipment safely and correctly.   Demonstrate knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation, remains informed on all current technologies.   Maintain current knowledge of hospital policy, JCAHO, state and other regulatory requirements.   Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.   Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis.  Professional Requirements:   Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.   Complete annual educational requirements.   Maintain regulatory requirements.   Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.   Report to work on time and as scheduled, complete work within designated time frame.   Wear identification while on duty, use computerized punch time system correctly.   Complete in-services and return in a timely fashion.   Attend annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.   Read and return all staff meeting minutes as required.   Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.   Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.   Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.   Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
