About The Position

The Medical Technologist Trainee works and trains under the direct supervision of a qualified director, supervisor or technologist. The Medical Technologist Trainee is responsible for assuring that a given test system is operated in accordance with the laboratory's procedure manual and that the applicable quality control requirements are met. The incumbent actively supports and complies with all Shore Medical Center policies and procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a Biological Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution; or
Associate degree in a Laboratory Science (Biological Science) or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

Performs tests in a timely manner.
Maintains turn-around time standards in stat testing-both in and out patient.
Has ability to coordinate simultaneous tests/procedures accurately.
Performs and documents quality control accurately; seeks supervisor guidance when appropriate
Consistently determines acceptability/integrity of specimens.
Responsible for informing supervisory personnel of all problems associated with the proper performance of test procedures.
Reports any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures, and cooperates fully with any investigation of same.
Maintains safe/clean work area.
Produces and reports accurate results.
Performs maintenance and troubleshooting effectively.
Performs other assigned duties.
Maintains appropriate record keeping.
Completes 6-month and annual competency in the month they are due.
Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, including Gloves, lab coat, mask and goggles (b)engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
