The position is for a Medical Technologist (MLS) at Highland Park Hospital. This is a full-time role with hours from Monday to Friday, 10pm to 6:30am, including every other weekend and rotating holidays. The role involves evaluating and interpreting laboratory test results, processing and preparing blood components for transfusions, conducting antibody screening and compatibility testing, maintaining laboratory equipment, managing blood product inventory, and adhering to quality control processes.

  • Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results, recording and reporting findings accurately.
  • Process and prepare blood components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for transfusions, following standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct antibody screening and compatibility testing on blood samples, using advanced laboratory equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies in good working condition, troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Ensure proper inventory management of blood products by monitoring expiration dates and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Adhere to quality control and quality assurance processes, performing routine checks and participating in proficiency testing.
  • Perform routine processing and cryopreservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) according to SOP, using sterile technique and following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Preferred: graduated from MLS (Bachelors) or MLT (Associates) program.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science.
  • Preferred: MLS or MLT certification.
  • Preferred: Previous relevant clinical experience. New graduates are welcome.
  • Strong foundation in medical laboratory science.
  • Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to various Laboratory areas with assistance under supervision.
  • Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel.
