About The Position

The position is for a Medical Technologist (MLS) in the Core Lab at Evanston Hospital. This is a full-time role with hours from Monday to Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm, including every other weekend and rotating holidays. The Medical Technologist will perform clinical lab testing in various areas including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation. The role emphasizes patient satisfaction and customer service, requiring the technologist to instruct and encourage coworkers to treat patients and customers courteously. Responsibilities include performing patient tests, reviewing test results for accuracy, documenting notifications of critical results, and maintaining quality control protocols. The technologist will also participate in continuing education and maintain a safe work environment while handling biohazardous materials. Additional duties may include assisting in the orientation and training of new employees and cross-training into other lab areas as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Biology or Chemistry.
  • Certification: MLS (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Any.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical lab testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
  • Promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values.
  • Instructs coworkers to treat patients and customers courteously.
  • Performs patient tests manually and with automated equipment.
  • Reviews patient test results for accuracy and notifies clinical personnel of critical results.
  • Documents notifications per established protocols.
  • Performs quality control and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Maintains competencies in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies.
  • Recognizes abnormal test results and makes appropriate decisions.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and lab meetings.
  • Maintains a safe work environment using required PPE.
  • Handles biohazardous materials according to established protocols.
  • Maintains inventory and supplies within departments.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • May assist in competency assessment of moderate and high complexity testing.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of all laboratory departments.
  • Reads emails and responds in a timely manner.
  • Completes other projects or duties as assigned.
