About The Position

The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing various laboratory tests on biological samples to support patient care. This role involves adhering to established protocols, ensuring quality control, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The position requires effective communication with healthcare providers and collaboration with team members to deliver accurate and timely test results.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in medical technology or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or biological sciences from an accredited school.
  • At least one year of experience in a specific laboratory area preferred, or successful completion of a clinical internship for new graduates.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems and Windows software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Nationally recognized certification as a medical technologist/technician preferred.
  • Certification in a specialty category may be acceptable in lieu of medical technologist/technician certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests using various lab instruments and manual methods on biological samples.
  • Comply with established standards and practices pertaining to test performance.
  • Perform quality control procedures and analyze quality control data.
  • Identify abnormal patient results and take appropriate action.
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Communicate results to physicians or authorized healthcare providers and ensure proper documentation.
  • Monitor reagents and supplies, ordering as needed to maintain inventory.
  • Document errors using the hospital Safety Reporting System and inform supervisors on process improvement.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees or students.
  • Assist in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new methodologies.
