About The Position

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Trinity Health, is looking for a full time Medical Technologist to join our team! A Medical Technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. A medical Technologist uses microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Medical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures consistently providing high quality patient care. A Medical Technologist is able to work independently in assigned areas (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology).

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Medical Technology.
• MLT (ASCP) certified or LA (ASCP) certified.
• Meet training and/or experience requirements for MLT certification.
• Experience in Microbiology Lab preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic laboratory tests.
• Use microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers, and computer equipment to perform tests.
• Perform standard laboratory procedures consistently.
• Work independently in assigned areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, and Microbiology.
• Utilize Laboratory Information Systems for daily operations.
• Process, order, result, and troubleshoot using the Meditech lab system.
• Prioritize work effectively and adhere to department’s STAT protocol.
• Call and attend to critical and STAT results immediately.
• Assist in problem solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Perform assigned analytical testing using independent judgment.
• Participate in continuing education and competency evaluations.
