About The Position

This position is for the Microbiology Department at UMass Memorial Health, where everyone is considered a caregiver, contributing to exceptional patient care, academic excellence, and leading-edge research. The role involves performing and interpreting various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The position requires adherence to established protocols and quality control measures, as well as maintaining accurate records of tests performed. The work schedule includes holidays and weekends, with a day shift from 07:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Requirements

• Associates degree from a clinical lab science program (MLT) or Bachelor's Degree in sciences.
• Degree and course work in the sciences must meet the requirements for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA Sec. 493.1487.
• Preferred: ASCP certification as an MLT/MT.

Responsibilities

• Follows established protocols to perform a wide range of tests in an assigned area.
• Refers to Medical Technologist II’s or supervisory or lead staff members for assistance in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
• Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition.
• Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area.
• Performs routine troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
• Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.
