Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) is responsible for performing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing in all areas of the clinical laboratory. This position ensures the accuracy, precision, and timeliness of laboratory test results, supporting critical clinical decisions and enhancing patient outcomes. Technologists operate under the direction of the Clinical and Medical Laboratory Directors and may act as a General Supervisor as needed.

  • Perform complex testing procedures in all laboratory departments per CLIA guidelines.
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, processing, and storage.
  • Perform and document quality control, preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Recognize, investigate, and resolve issues affecting test performance or result validity.
  • Accurately interpret test results, recognizing critical values and reporting as required.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain associated documentation.
  • Train and mentor new employees and students in laboratory procedures and policies.
  • Prepare and submit statistical and quality reports as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Communicate abnormal test findings to appropriate supervisors or medical staff.
  • Participate in procedure development and updates, ensuring CLD/MLD approval.
  • Maintain technical competency through ongoing education and annual assessments.
  • Respond promptly to STAT orders and prioritize workflow efficiently.
  • Work flexible shifts and support various lab departments as needed.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field.
  • National certification (e.g., ASCP, AMT) or eligible.
  • Arkansas state licensure or eligibility if applicable.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Previous experience working in a clinical hospital laboratory.
  • Competency in microbiology, hematology, chemistry, immunology, and transfusion services.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
