About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager or designee, provides leadership and technical expertise, coordinates workflow, manages staff scheduling and performs training and quality activities. Ensures that testing is completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies and procedures. Perform the essential functions of the Technologist Shift: This full-time position will work on Mid- and 2nd shift, 5 days a week, to include rotating weekends and holidays. Based upon when hours are worked, position may include a 2nd shift and weekend differential of $3.50 - $8.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) or more years in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood banking, environment or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a OneBlood laboratory
  • In Florida, a valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking; supervisor license preferred. In certain specialty laboratories other Florida licenses may be required. If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, must meet current CLIA requirements for high complexity testing
  • Ability to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency or other catastrophic event
  • Knowledge of and ability to read technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to read, write and speak English effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Skill in operating office equipment
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to commute with personal transportation:
  • Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or prolonged sitting or standing.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures efficiency and productivity by monitoring the production status and directing the workflow and people resources to meet deadlines and standards
  • Participates in validation, projects and monitoring key performance indicators
  • Provides leadership and technical expertise for the department helping to resolve issues associated with protocol, equipment, interpretation of test results and system interfaces
  • Completes employee departmental orientation, competency testing, compliance training and other mandatory instruction
  • Ensures that all QC/QA procedures, maintenance schedules, instrument calibration and function checks and other regulatory inspection agency requirements are followed
  • Performs Medical Technologist bench work as needed
  • Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors and takes effective and preventive corrective actions when indicated
  • Participates in an on-call rotation
  • May take over some functions in the absence of the department manager or supervisor.
