The Medical Technologist performs various routine or special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests. The duties may be specific to a particular area of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or the blood bank. The position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a temporary or pending permit issued by LSBME. Licensure is required in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in the applicable specialty for the department and position.
