About The Position

The Medical Technologist performs various routine or special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests. The duties may be specific to a particular area of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or the blood bank. The position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a temporary or pending permit issued by LSBME. Licensure is required in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in the applicable specialty for the department and position.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist (CLS-S).
• Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests on cells and microorganisms in body fluids.
• Examine growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens and cultures.
• Analyze blood and other body fluids.
• Perform blood compatibility testing.
• Demonstrate initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances.
• Assist in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and equipment.
• Coordinate, plan, and utilize time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies in work areas.
• Perform quality control and instrument check procedures.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of daily activities.
• Observe and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
• Exhibit a professional manner, appearance, and performance.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
