About The Position

The Medical Technologist/Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology is responsible for performing, calculating, and reporting routine and special laboratory tests. This role involves maintaining laboratory equipment, troubleshooting issues, evaluating results, and ensuring quality control. The individual will also serve as a resource for new employees and students, assist in evaluating new test procedures, and must demonstrate knowledge of patient care across different age groups.

Requirements

• Entry-level graduates of an approved associate degree program in an appropriate science field and eligibility as a medical technologist are considered.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.
• Willingness to increase knowledge of laboratory and hospital functions.
• Demonstration of creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
• ASCP-MT or MLT or equivalent preferred.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program is required.

Nice To Haves

• ASCP-MEDTECH - MLT OR MT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special laboratory tests accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
• Evaluate results and quality control data, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Serve as a resource for new employees and students, providing training and support.
• Assist in evaluating new test procedures and their implementation.
• Monitor and evaluate training progress, making recommendations for additional training as needed.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of work and storage areas.
• Order supplies and assist in inventory management.
• Demonstrate the ability to function productively and independently, planning and prioritizing tasks effectively.
