Medical Technologist II - $1,000 sign-on bonus! Hours: Monday to Friday - Day Shift, No Weekends, No Holidays (Subject to change) This position performs a limited variety of standard but specialized laboratory tests on human source plasma products. Uses discretion and professional judgment in assessing data, verifying results, and assuring quality control. Calculates and correlates test results; troubleshoots and resolves testing and instrument problems. Provides technical direction to assigned Technologists and Technicians. Advises supervisor about deviations and unanticipated or unfamiliar problems. Monitors and assigns daily workload to Technologists and Technicians. Prioritize testing to accommodate smooth and timely flow of results. Performs laboratory tests including routine and specialized testing for contracts and customers in compliance with GMP and established procedures. Manages test data, records and completes all documention in compliance with GDP requirements and following established procedures.. Review and release final test results. Verify all transcriptions. Check quality control for run validity. Inform and directs technologists and technicians of any errors and corrections to be made. Perform instrument troubleshooting including performing minor repairs and contacting supplier when necessary following all normal procedures. Manages reagent inventory and supply inventory as assigned. Provides support and oversight maintaining cleanliness and organization of storage areas. Provide problem-solving, troubleshooting, and reference for Technologists and Technicians. Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of all related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the lab. Provide reassurance when a mistake is made and help with the resolution. Provides support to management with oversight of, and is responsible for review of documentation (SOPs, Forms, etc.) to ensure they are maintained current and in compliance with regulations. Responsible for ensuring all equipment is operational and suitable for the intended use (validated, calibrations and maintenance are kept current, etc.). Notify Operations Supervisor or Sr. Technologist of operational and testing problems, which cannot be resolved or are not addressed in the SOP’s. Oversee pooling operation. Ensure bleeds are pulled, pipetted, and tested in a timely manner. Function as lead medical technologist as assigned or in absence of Supervisor. Train personnel according to laboratory requirements and established procedures. Run specialized computer programs for designated assignments: Excel, e-mail, word, access, LIMs, SAP, EDMS. May be trained and assigned to provide oversight for RBC area and monitor the inventory of frozen red blood cells, and monitor the whole blood units as they are available for freezing. Able to detect problems with the red blood cells and report observations to management. Develop understanding of the anti-D specialty plasma program and understands the FDA regulations/ requirements and helps to maintatin compliance with established SOPs for the processing of whole blood, frozen red blood cells, and deglycerolized red blood cells. Develop understanding of other specialty plasma programs and the support provided by the laboratory for these. Act as a reference in case of problems with testing or processing of units. Able to prepare reagents with ability to utilize the equipment for such preparation. Ability to interact with the Biotest centers regarding samples submission, immunization sequence, and the DeNovo process. Analyze the immune response and based on specific criteria, order red blood cells for the physician’s use in immunization. Track Anti-D material inventory and provide a pool of adequate performance. Helps maintain physical and computer inventory of Anti-D. Understands and is able to troubleshoot pool making/calculations. Familiar with proper procedure for exposures and lab accidents, or personal injury. Able to create an enviorment where MT I’s feel free to ask questions pertaining to results; provides support. Must be flexible, change ready and available when necessary to support Laboratory operations. Assist laboratory Supervisor as required. Perform additional tasks or take part in special projects as assigned by management.
