About The Position

Under general supervision, performs routine and special laboratory assays of patient specimens (e.g., body fluids, exudates, skin scrapings or surgical specimens), exercising independent judgment when evaluating the validity of test results prior to result reporting. Provides data for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Operates and calibrates all equipment in the area of specialization, evaluates the validity of laboratory data, records tests results, communicates with physicians, pathologists and nursing staff regarding test procedures and results. As a level II Technologist, conducts competency assessments and is responsible for College of American Pathologist (CAP) Survey Attestation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a chemical, physical, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Meet qualifications for competency assessment as defined by CAP.
  • Certified Medical Technologist (ASCP) certification is strongly preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
  • Two years of laboratory experience preferred.
