Fisher-Titus proudly serves the greater Huron County area's 70,000-plus residents by providing a full continuum of health and wellness care from heart and cancer care to outpatient services such as lab, imaging, and physical rehabilitation. The position is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures.

  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Evaluates specimens for acceptability for proper testing.
  • Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Organizes workload for maximum efficiency in order to complete tests being performed.
  • Accurately performs test as requested on specimens received, ensuring correct patient encounter is used and appropriate procedure is performed.
  • Verifies accuracy of results before reporting results.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the Medical Technologist II or Director/Supervisor.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures.
  • Performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, fingersticks, heelsticks) as appropriate for the patient requiring this procedure.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Maintains work area.
  • Assists with orientation of laboratory procedures for students and/or new laboratory employees.
  • Experience in laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent.
  • Experience with quality control processes in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
