LOCATION: Women and Babies Hospital in Lancaster, PA DEPARTMENT: Blood Bank/Core Lab SIGN-ON BONUS: Up to $5000.00 (based on hours per week/FTE) with 2 year commitment. External candidates only. SCHEDULE: Full time (40 hours per week/0.9 FTE). 7:00AM-3:30PM. Weekend rotation on second shift (every 4th weekend). Summer and winter holiday rotation on second shift. This position requires a Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician degree, and offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment in a dynamic clinical laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in microbiological techniques and a passion for contributing to high-quality patient care through accurate and timely diagnostic testing.   • Performs routine and special diagnostic test procedures.
  • Supports Quality Control and documentation.
  • Conducts function verification and instrument maintenance.
  • Handles associated specimen collection and clerical work as required.
  • Generalist role includes blood banking, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and urines.
  • Performs initial evaluation and handling of incoming specimens: separation, centrifugation and preservation procedures.
  • Sorts and organizes specimen batches.
  • Organizes, labels and numbers specimen, worksheets, and appropriate test materials in test set-up.
  • Measures and dispenses specimens and reagents in test system.
  • Monitors manual functions of test system and instruments to assure accuracy and precision.
  • Records and evaluates programmed quality control results according to established control limits.
  • Follows corrective action procedures for out-of-control situations.
  • Enters test results and related data into laboratory computer and into logbook after controls are evaluated and found to be within limits.
  • Calls 'alert values' to appropriate caregivers.
  • Accurately reports test results, understanding the inter-relationships between patient condition, medication and timing of specimen collection.
  • High school diploma / GED.
  • Completion of a medical lab science program or medical lab technician.
  • MT, MLT or equivalent issued by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or eligible to take such exam.
  • One (1) year of clinical internship or Laboratory experience.
  • $5,000 sign on bonus.
