About The Position

A 190-bed, full-service acute care hospital serving the greater Kansas City region is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist (ASCP) – Blood Bank to join its laboratory team. The organization is supported by more than 600 physicians and provides advanced, patient-centered care through nationally recognized specialty programs. The Medical Technologist (ASCP) – Blood Bank is responsible for performing pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory testing in accordance with CLIA 1988 regulations. This role supports accurate, timely diagnostic results that directly impact patient care and safety. Recent acute care Blood Bank experience is required. Available Shifts Evening Shift: 40 hours/week Night Shift: Thursday–Sunday (32 hours/week) Weekend-Only Options Available Shift Differentials: $2/hour – Evenings $3/hour – Nights $3/hour – Weekends

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science OR Bachelor’s degree with certification in a laboratory sub-specialty OR CLIA ’88 grandfathered Medical Technologist status
  • MT(ASCP), CLS (NCA), or equivalent
  • Acceptable sub-specialty certifications include: BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), I(ASCP), H(ASCP), M(ASCP)
  • Minimum 1+ year of recent Blood Bank experience in an acute care hospital laboratory (Non-acute care laboratory experience will not be considered)

Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing on blood and body fluids
  • Conduct Blood Bank testing in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Collect, process, and enter specimens into laboratory systems
  • Verify, interpret, and report laboratory results accurately
  • Investigate and troubleshoot unexpected or abnormal test results
  • Monitor, document, and maintain quality control procedures
  • Manage laboratory inventory, reagents, and supplies
  • Maintain non-analytic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers)
  • Adhere to safety, infection control, and compliance standards
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives
  • Assist with evaluation of new instrumentation and testing methodologies
  • Correlate laboratory findings with potential pathological conditions
  • Train and orient laboratory staff and students as assigned
