About The Position

This position is located at Bassett Army Community Hospital in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of specialized experience which includes performing testing in a clinical laboratory, providing guidance to laboratory personnel, and performing quality control.
  • One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
  • A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Execute a variety of diagnostic tests from routine to very complex in chemistry, special chemistry, immunology, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, transfusion medicine and serology.
  • Operate State of the Art elaborate and complex medical laboratory equipment in each section of the laboratory.
  • Assist in the training new personnel and students in each section of the Clinical Laboratory.
  • Perform quality control in each section and verify validity of test results accordingly.
  • Perform tasks ancillary to laboratory operations such as conducting inventories reporting equipment malfunctions, and assisting in area cleanup and related tasks.
