About The Position

The Medical Technician will support our Summer Staff and Volunteer Nurses with direct care of campers, including activities of daily living such as grooming, dressing, bathing, eating, and exercising. This position requires a passion for working with children with complex medical conditions, values teamwork, and is easily flexible. Additionally, the Medical Technician will support the Medical Team to maintain the Depot operations. This is a seasonal summer position that will be part of the Summer Medical team. This position lives in a cabin and is expected to be with campers throughout the day. This position will report to the Nursing Director as well as support the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Requirements

  • Be able to move items or people. This will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry.
  • Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert protocol.
  • Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans.
  • Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and instruct campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
  • Experience working with patient populations and interdisciplinary medical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic care for campers, working under the direction of the Summer Staff Nurses and under the supervision of the Nursing Director.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Team (Nursing Director, Medical Director, Clinical Nurse Manager, Summer Staff Nurses, Volunteer Physicians/Providers, Volunteer Nurses) and Program Camp Staff to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of basic care needs.
  • Support the basic medical needs and ADLs of campers during each camp session. This can also include supporting with appropriate medical treatments in conjunction with a cabin nurse.
  • Under the direction of the cabin nurse, support medication distribution as scheduled or as needed to campers.
  • Provide basic support and preparation for procedures as scheduled and as necessary for each camper.
  • Collaborate with Medical Team to maintain and organize inventory and the overall care and operations of the Depot. This can include uploading medical records, documentation and medical laundry.
  • Support Nurses with medical oversight, triage and first aid as needed at high-risk activity areas.
  • Document and keep records of medical care, including data entry and use of online database and online logbook. This includes uploading paper documents.
  • Ensuring confidentiality of medical information and medical records at camp.
  • Work in partnership with the medical and camp team to provide support education to camp staff and volunteers.
  • Support the volunteer orientation process and preparation as delegated by the Medical Team.
  • Serve as an educational resource for staff and volunteers regarding the illnesses and medical needs of their specific campers as well as the growth, development, activities of daily living and special hygiene needs of campers.
  • Provide guidance and support to cabin medical volunteers as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Behavioral Health Team and Cabin Life Team to support behavioral needs.
  • May be asked to travel or drive a camp vehicle with campers for local or emergent care, or to obtain medical supplies and medications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
