About The Position

The Medical Technologist II develops and monitors test systems, and performs and interprets laboratory tests for the diagnosis and care of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and applicants must be eligible for an appropriate certification examination. a. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW) OR
Associates Degree in laboratory science (Chemical or Biological Science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and certification as a Medical Technologist. a. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW) OR
Graduate of a Military Program in Science (health science, biology, chemical, physical, medical technology) and certification as a Medical Technologist. a. Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW) OR
Grandfathered Medical Technologist by having previously qualified as a technologist on or before February 28, 1992 and current certification as a Medical Technologist. a. Acceptable certifying agencies include ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW)
One (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory
Ability to implement and perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
Must submit to a Color-Acuity screening Test

Responsibilities

Performs tests of a more complex nature, investigates and troubleshoots tests and/or system failures requiring judgment and discretion in the application and interpretation of procedures and results.
Reviews investigation of events or situations concerning adverse patient outcomes with supervisor and staff.
Provides in service training for employees on proper procedures and techniques.
Determines inventories of supplies and reagents to ensure adequate, economical levels are available.
Trains new employees and/or students, and certifies their orientation.
Performs the duties of the Medical Laboratory Technologist I.
Assumes department responsibility in the absence of supervisor and manager/director.
Develops systems and procedures to monitor and evaluate analytical test instruments.
Develops guidelines for patient sample evaluation to ensure that no adverse outcomes occur.
Reviews invoices from reference laboratories to ensure that billing are accurate.
Assists with department scheduling.
Participates in statistical data gathering and projects to ensure that productivity and quality goals are achieved.
