About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Med/Surg RN for the Emergency Department. Up to $15,000 Sign-On Bonus for Qualified Applicants! Please ask the recruiter for details. Hours/Shift: Full Time (36 hr/week), Swing Shift The ED welcomes experienced nurses interested in moving into this new specialty. The 20-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in the Emergency Department. Overview: The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. Our department includes multiple treatment areas that care for patients across all acuity levels, offering diverse clinical exposure and the opportunity to work with a strong team focused on quality outcomes and performance excellence. Sentara Leigh Hospital , located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. Our hospital completed a renovation in 2016, including two new patient towers, a beautiful atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. Sentara Leigh Hospital includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital providing patients access to a full continuum of orthopedic care, from the preoperative phase and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services. Along with being a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, we also specialize in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. We are also home to the region’s only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program that helps speed up the healing of carbon monoxide poisoning, wounds that won’t heal, infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen, airborne chemical exposures, and scuba diving accidents. Requirements

Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
Registered nursing License (Required)
Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
BLS required within 90 days of hire
ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
Minimum of 1 year med/surg nursing
