About The Position

Lead a 45-bed medical-surgical unit at a comprehensive 100+ bed healthcare facility in Georgetown, Texas (north of Austin), recognized as a Level IV Trauma Center, Certified Primary Stroke Center, and Certified Chest Pain Center. This Med Surg Nursing Manager role provides hands-on leadership managing diverse patient populations in a community hospital setting offering 24-hour emergency care, surgery, maternity and newborn care, and rehabilitation services. The position reports to the Director of Med Surg who oversees three medical-surgical units across the facility. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited school of nursing
  • Current Texas RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare setting
  • BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Strong clinical expertise in medical-surgical nursing with diverse patient populations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Hands-on management approach with willingness to provide direct patient care when needed
  • Availability for Monday-Friday days with no weekend requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous charge nurse or management experience in medical-surgical settings
  • Experience in community hospital environments with diverse case mix
  • Med-Surg certification (RN-BC in Medical-Surgical Nursing)
  • Background in Level IV Trauma Centers or stroke/chest pain certified facilities

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate all unit functions during designated shifts in collaboration with management team members.
  • Ensure departmental mission and objectives are maintained with interpretation of objectives to staff as necessary.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge base in nursing practice and clinical application to diverse patient populations served on 45-bed unit.
  • Maintain communication with management team regarding potential/actual problems, concerns, and medical staff issues.
  • Establish and maintain communication channels with medical staff and hospital departments to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Manage personnel providing direct patient care with delegation based on patient care needs and competencies of available staff.
  • Provide direct and ongoing supervision of staff regarding conflict resolution and personnel policy compliance.
  • Complete performance evaluations and implement disciplinary actions in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Round on staff and patients daily in cooperation with Nursing Director to ensure quality care delivery and staff support.
  • Monitor and maintain high standards regarding patient care while overseeing compliance with core measures on applicable patients.
  • Assess complexity of patient care and service needs to coordinate nursing staff assignments meeting all required services.
  • Keep performance improvement data and quality metrics up-to-date for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards for medical-surgical nursing.
  • Provide hands-on clinical support when needed, maintaining direct patient care involvement as working manager.
  • Coordinate departmental activities with responsibility for assessing quality and efficiency of operations.
