About The Position

The primary purpose of the Medical Support Assistant is to assist the nursing staff and medical providers by rooming patients, taking vital signs, verifying allergies, verifying medications, documenting in the Electronic Medical Record and other duties as needed in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Cozad Community Health System.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant Course.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma.
  • Medical terminology and pharmaceutical knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of Business Office practices.
  • Computer experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Current Certified Medication Aide in the State of Nebraska required
  • Basic Life Support (CPR)

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Nebraska preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff and providers as directed and in accordance with Nebraska State Law for Certified Nursing Assistants and Medical Assistants.
  • Room the patient and obtain vital signs, verify allergies and medications and document in EMR.
  • Setting up and assisting with procedures in minor surgery.
  • Ensures patient exam rooms are stocked, clean and orderly.
  • Ensures minor surgery rooms are stocked, clean and orderly; regularly checks for outdated items.
  • Cleans, packages, and sterilizes necessary supplies.
  • Ensures the sample medication cabinet is clean and orderly. Regularly checks for outdated samples and disposes of outdates appropriately.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Accompany patients to x-ray and enter patient information in the x-ray processor and x-ray logbook.
  • Enter patient information in the laboratory logbooks.
  • Become proficient with the EMR used in the clinic and hospital.
  • Transfer medical information to the patient chart. Scan information from transferred charts per the Evident Chart Prep Guide using the current Image Title guide.
  • Complete patient visit worksheets.
  • Accepts activities based on competence level and maintains competence and accountability for the delegated responsibility, activity, or task.
  • Communicates with the nursing professional regarding competence, variations in care and data gathered.
  • Attends staff meetings and other educational meetings as assigned by the Director.
  • Collaborates with Medical Staff and other healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
  • Works with other departments to provide services and resources.
  • Participates in training to stay current on Rural Health Clinic regulations.
  • Provides quality healthcare services to all patients.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines and promotes and ensures patient safety.
  • Fulfills mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive and professional environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
