Requirements

  • Must possess 1 year experience required in sterile processing. (surgical technician experience may be substituted)
  • One (1) year of experience with the following duties: o Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment. o Assemble instruments for the following services: General, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Cardiothoracic, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Urology, Otolaryngology, Plastic and Oral/Dental. o Prepare case carts and maintain sterile storage area. o Operate instrumentation tracking system, washer-disinfector, ultrasonic, cart washer, steam, sterrad, and V pro max sterilizers. o Have a strong knowledge of Medical Terminology, Surgical Procedures, and the reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment. o Managing inventory: Pulling, replenishing, monitoring stock levels (including expiration dates and critical supplies), and conducting daily inventory using barcoding. o Distribution: Distributing supplies based on requirements and delivering them in a timely and functional condition o Customer interaction: Providing information to customers and addressing any concerns. o Preparation and cleaning: Preparing specialty carts and cleaning assigned areas according to aseptic principles. o Receiving: Receiving supplies into the medical center.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Health Care Sterile Processing Association Certification. (preferred)
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution. (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Sterile processing duties listed in “Basic Requirements”.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Receive, inspect, and store incoming supplies.
  • Organize and maintain storage areas for easy access.
  • Restock supplies in patient care areas and departments.
  • Prepare and distribute medical supplies for procedures and surgeries.
  • Track usage and report shortages or discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for orders and returns.
  • Completion of training programs.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
