About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Float Pool at Advocate Health is responsible for assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation, as well as measuring and documenting vital signs and other patient data. The CNA will participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring that patient needs are met and that the environment is safe and welcoming. The position requires working 2 twelve-hour night shifts per week, with the possibility of weekend and holiday rotations.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
• Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
• Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
• Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other patient data as requested.
• Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family.
• Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
• Completes various errands including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports.
• Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.
• Maintains skin integrity and ensures special patient supplies are provided.
• May be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and bladder scans under RN direction.
• Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention.
